Yarn Estimator works out how much yarn a tufted rug needs. Load your rug design, mark each color, set the real size, and it tells you the yarn weight per color and how many cones to buy.

2. Set the rug width in cm (it starts at 100), then click or tap each color in the design — or let Auto-fill find them all.
3. Pick short or long pile for each color, then copy the list of cones to buy.

How much yarn do I need for a tufted rug?

It depends on the area of each color and on the pile height. With the built-in wool defaults, a kilo of yarn covers about 0.4 m² of short pile or 0.22 m² of long pile. Yarn Estimator measures each color's area from your design and does the sums.

How many cones should I buy?

Cones only come whole, so Yarn Estimator rounds every color up to full cones (0.5 kg by default, adjustable) and shows how much you'll have left over.

Can I use my own yarn values?

Yes. The yarn usage for short and long pile and the cone size are all editable, so you can match the yarn you actually tuft with.
